Rock music- which first broke out as "rock and roll music" in the early 1950s -
has always been hailed as the sound of independence. The genre was spawned out of the need for a medium of self-expression that challenged the Establishment.

Rock music has always embodied the spirit of mavericks and people who are not afraid to challenge the status quo. It is definitely classified as "loud music" - what with its brash lyrics and infectious hooks. It's not the music that's associated with the so-called gentrified crowd.

Indeed, rock music and all its variants have been the ever dependable anthem of cultural and social movements that question the status quo.

In the book, On the Move, Irish band U2's lead vocalist, Bono (real name: Paul David Hewson) said, "Pop music often tells you everything is OK, while rock music tells you that it's not OK, but you can change it." His simple observation is spot on. It certainly encapsulates the essence of rock music.

Then again, rock music need not be part of a political statement. At least, not all the time. It also happens to be the chosen soundtrack of people who just want to have a good time.

The BlueMoon Rock Band continues the musical mission of the fearless trailblazers of the genre - to put their souls into their craft and play their hearts out for the people who want to live life to the fullest.
